Dorset Home Choice gives you more choice about where you want to live.
Welcome to Dorset Home Choice. East Dorset District Council, Christchurch Borough Council, North Dorset District Council, Purbeck District Council, West Dorset District Council and Weymouth & Portland Borough Council in partnership with Bournemouth & Poole Borough Councils have developed a Dorset Wide Home Choice CBL scheme.
New applicants can register with the scheme, by completing one common application form. Once registered applicants will be able to bid for properties, across all areas within the partnership where they are eligible.
Applicants will need to choose one authority as their managing local authority (if they wish to apply to more than one of the partners, this is usually the authority they either live in or wish to live in.)
If this is your first visit to this website and you are not already on the Dorset Home Choice housing register you will need to register before you can bid for properties.
You may also want to look at the Scheme Guide to familiarise yourself with the bidding process and the details of the Housing Allocation policies that are in place.
Changes to Housing Benefit rates payable for single people under 35 in Social Housing come into force from 1 April 2018 and will affect anyone who has signed a new tenancy after the 1 April 2016.
Housing Benefit for single people who are:
• Renting a property from a social housing provider
• under the age of 35
• and without children
will be restricted to the shared accommodation rates of Local Housing Allowance which currently apply for those renting in the private sector. This means they will only be able to claim the same amount of benefit as a private tenant is able to claim for a room in a shared house. Please note that If you are already affected by the under occupation charge only one reduction (either the under occupation charge or Local Housing Allowance Cap) will apply. The charge which will apply will be the one which will result in the greater reduction in the amount you receive.
If you currently live in a home provided by a social landlord and are looking for a new home then mutual exchange using Exchange Locata might be for you.
If you are an existing social housing tenant we have provided further information on fixed term tenancies and affordable rents.
You should be able to find all the information you need on this website, but if you have any questions about Home Choice please contact your relevant local authority.
